Reduced to sell £150.000 ( Finance packages now available )

Up for sale is this original period group A RS500 Built in Hong Kong for the 1988 season for Eddie Lee Genuine rs500 parts were hard to get in Hong kong at the time hence why the car ran a std cosworth front bumper Eddie Lee had 2 rs500 race cars at the time , this car and a Rouse spec car , The rouse car was crashed quite bad in 1989 and so all the Rouse running gear was transferred over onto this shell to make this a much better car than its original specification . In 1990 the car was sold to Ho Lung and it remained in Hong Kong , but Lung never raced the car . At some point in the 90s the car changed hands again , this time to well known race car collector , David Wong , Wong again never raced the car until it was sold again , This time to the UK to BTCC racer Graham Hathaway , Graham was a long time racer in various cars , from Rally cross to Touring cars . Graham Hathaway sold the car to Martin Johnson , Martin entered the car in a couple of races but results and what series is not 100% known . The car was sold in 2011 to Classic car dealer Ian donaldson ( Oakfields ) Ian sent the car to be nut and bolt restored at Ian Gwynn’s ( BGM Sport ) Part of the restoration included the car having a new roll cage fitted along with new air jacks etc . 2012 The car was purchased by Jim Whelan Jim again is a very well known racer and again in many aspects of motorsport . Jim spent an absolute fortune on the car , this included a full engine rebuild at Geoff page racing , Geoff told me personally that the car was the biggest horsepower ” LEGAL ” group A rs500 he has seen with a staggering 564 bhp , this at the time was very impressive figures . The car also had a new engine loom and a Life ECU fitted to bring the car up to modern standards . The gearbox and Harrop diff were also fully rebuilt . The car had every mechanical part stripped and either replaced or rebuilt as Jim likes his cars in perfect condition , Jim did a couple of races with the car but decided his passion was Rallying and so sold the car in 2014 to Paul Smith , Paul did a couple of test session with the car and entered at Silverstone classic , but sadly the engine failed and Paul had ex Mountune employee Dave Hill ( Hillbilly ) rebuild the engine for him . Paul then sold it to its current owner who again did a couple of test days but has decided to thin down his collection and offer the car for sale . This car is on the button , its starts first hit and is sweet and runs very well . Its is ready to race in this years historic series with just spanner checks and fluid changes , Its a beautiful car that has wanted for nothing in recent years and is offered for sale at a lower asking price that it now costs to built a replica to the same high spec . More recently the car has has a new ( bag tank ) fuel cell fitted , these are very expensive so a real bonus that this is a recent item fitted . I have known this car personally for many many years and seen it evolve into the car you see here today . Original period cars make sense as they have period history and all the correct parts fitted . I have other pictures ( period) and of the restoration that i am happy to share with any serious buyers . There is so much to say about this fantastic car that would simply take far to long to put into this advert , so please feel free to call me where we can chat about it . Some of the photos show the car has all the correct group A Rouse parts and show the superb condition of not only the outside but also the mechanical parts that were all refreshed while in Jims ownership . IMO this is a very special car offered at less that the cost to build a replica and so makes it great value . There is another set of wheels with wets fitted and some other spares to go with the car , Please feel free to call to arrange to view this fantastic original group A rs500 . A nice video of the car at silverstone classic media day 2013 . .
