Who is Paul Linfoot Racing?

Who does a British Touring Car Championship driver turn to when he wants answers about an RS500? Who does an FIA Historic racer call on when in need of period-correct parts for a Group A Sierra?

Paul Linfoot Racing is rightly regarded as the go-to specialist for all things related to the Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth. From build numbers of original RS500 road cars to roll-cage specifications of period BTCC racing RS500s, Paul Linfoot Racing is recognised as the world’s leading authority.

Paul Linfoot has been prominent on the Ford RS scene for more than 25 years, his hands-on experience with the Sierra RS Cosworth stretching back two decades, when his connection with the RS500 led to him spending 11 years as the RS Owners’ Club’s RS500 registrar.

Paul’s knowledge of the Sierra RS500 Cosworth is second to none; Paul has worked on more RS500s than anyone else in the world (excluding Tickford, when the cars were built in 1987), and it’s reckoned a third of all surviving RS500 road cars have been through Paul’s workshop. Paul has owned a tenth of the entire production run, leading to an encyclopaedic understanding of this incredible machine.

Paul’s passion for RS500s has for many years been accompanied by intimacy with their legendary racing equivalents. In 2009, Paul built his first Group A RS500 touring car, a stunning recreation of Colin Bond’s Caltex-liveried Sierra. Since then he has personally owned original RS500s from all of the world’s major contemporary touring car series: British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM), European Touring Car Championship (ETCC) and Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC).

From restoring, rebuilding and racing such revered RS500s, Paul has become familiar with the various specifications and regulations of each international series, crucially being able to identify individual build techniques, components and setups of all the period’s top RS500 manufacturers.

Paul is never without his own examples of Group A and original RS500 road cars, presently including DJR1 (the first Sierra built by Dick Johnson Racing’s ATCC team, later campaigned by Robb Gravett in BTCC but now back in DJR livery) and the Spa 24 Hours-winning works Eggenberger Sierra – widely considered to be the best RS500 ever built, with an unbeaten record in its famous Bastos livery, including the Silverstone Classic 2019.

After campaigning in original RS500 touring cars, Paul currently competes in a freshly-built Group A RS500, shared with ex-BTCC star Karl Jones.

Paul Linfoot Racing is also home to the world’s biggest collection of Group A RS500 automobilia – always on the grid for finding more Cosworth memorabilia.
